Our Founder
Dr. Rafael Rafols has been serving the Rio Grande Valley since 2006, delivering exceptional care and establishing himself as a leader in wound care. After completing his training in Family Medicine in 2009 and becoming board certified, Dr. Rafols worked as a Hospitalist Physician, where he recognized a critical need for specialized wound care in the community. In 2011, he founded Wound Management, DBA, and now with Wound Squad, his latest venture, he’s expanding the reach of mobile wound care, providing expert care directly to patients’ homes and through his three clinic locations in Mission, Rio Grande City, and Harlingen. As Wound Squad grows, Dr. Rafols is committed to bringing high-quality wound care to communities nationwide.
Dr. Rafols was the first physician in the Rio Grande Valley to achieve board certification in wound care from the American Board of Wound Healing, earning the title of Certified Wound Specialist Physician (CWSP) in 2011. Since then, he has dedicated his career to the field of wound care, gaining international recognition as a wound care expert.
He has presented at numerous national conferences and participated in multiple wound care symposiums. His work has been published in leading journals like Wounds Journal, and he has contributed to clinical trials that push the boundaries of wound care technology. As a respected consultant, Dr. Rafols has worked with top wound care companies including Convatec, Inc., KCI, Kerecis, and Smith & Nephew.
Dr. Rafols is also the only certified Hyperbaric Physician in the Rio Grande Valley, having earned certifications as a Hyperbaric Technician in 2012 and by the American College of Hyperbaric Medicine in 2016. In 2017, he was named a Fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association (APWCA) for his outstanding contributions to the field.
With Wound Squad, Dr. Rafols is expanding his commitment to providing compassionate, expert care, ensuring patients throughout the Rio Grande Valley receive the wound treatment they need in the comfort of their own homes.
